Hays Soccer Club U8 Lightning Pickup First Team Win in Topeka

The Hays Soccer Club’s U8 Lightning went 1-3 at the Nightmare on 17th Street tournament last weekend in Topeka, KS picking up their first win for the first-year team. Although a few players competed last Spring most of this young team is new to competitive soccer. This was their third tournament of the season, and we are seeing steady improvement not only with each tournament but with each game. The Topeka tournament saw the Lightning with close competition in their first game against the Topeka Sharks losing 2-4 with Cameron Feldt and Miles Mergen picking up goals. The next game was against a Great Bend Panthers U8 team that started out strong but finished with a 0-7 loss. The boys came back Sunday morning and started strong with three goals in the first period with Lincoln Hamel picking up 2 and Bryce Irwin the other. The teams played strong throughout the match and held the Topeka Blue Jays to a shutout.

The tournament saw goals from Bryce Irwin(1), Cameron Feldt(1), Lincoln Hamel(2), and Miles Mergen(1) with shots on goal from Bryce Irwin(4), Cameron Feldt(9), Gavin Barber(2), Lincoln Hamel(2), LJ Owens(2), and Miles Mergen(2). Ryder Feldt had 17 saves with Bryce Irwin recording 2.

Lightning will be back in action on November 5th at the Stryker Season Finale in Wichita, KS. Hays Soccer Club U8 is currently adding new players for the Spring season.
